Review:

Fresh from the Mort family comes this Mexican taco packed full of tasty ingredients, a subtle blend of early Epica, Therion, Within Temptation, Wagner, Carmen, and Phantom of the Opera, seasoned with a pinch of Diablo Swing Orchestra. The three singers are outstanding, the pitch perfect mezzo soprano of the luscious Madam D'Lamort, the rich baritone of Eiven Dumort, and the occasional deep growls by Alferis Mort, perfectly illustrated by the awesome ‘Viaje Al Centro Del Infierno’. The performances by the other 5 Morts are equally impressive, and the whole opus is impeccably recorded. The album is packed with no less than 13 mini epic operas (plus an intro and outro), so it is a tough job to pick faves. I am especially taken with the towering ‘Babel’, the delightful ‘El Ultimo Vals’ with Pier LeMort’s rippling piano, the can canning ‘Una Idea Toco Mi Almohada’ (I got my frilly knickers out specially), and the hilarious bonkers quickstep ‘Necrotica’. On the gorgeous rousing Celtic ‘Sonia’ a Highland pipes and drums marching band turn up, goodness knows what they are doing in Mexico, but it makes a nice change for them from freezing their Trossachs off. The lyrics in Spanish look very interesting (sadly I need an interpreter) and the band have a striking image to match the drama of their music, they must put on one hell of a show. This is symphonic metal par excellence, rarely have I heard such a perfect, seamless amalgam of metal, opera and classical music. The whole fandango is available from their Myspace, http://www.myspace.com/nostramorte and EBay, a high kicking 9.5 out of 10.
